File extension pbf information

The initials .PBF stand for Portable Bitmap Format. The .PBF file extension provides a portable image that is not impeded legally. This in essence means that, this image does not incur losses is streaming-capable and is a standard for bitmapped image files. Additionally, it provides new features to the end user at a very low cost to the producer. It is different from the .GIF format as it is able to support 24- bit images and does not include an alpha channel mechanism. Moreover, this extension supports a compression system.
The .PBF extension is specifically designed, not to be completely dependent on only one compression technique. It supports an alpha channel, which is more flexible than a transparency index approach as employed in the .GIF format. All color values range from zero, which is black, to the most intense value. The first four bytes of the format always contain ASCII characters, which are referred to as identification headers. The rest of the file consists of a series of portions, where each portion consists of a 4 byte portion type of uppercase ASCII letters.
